Coach’s Wisdom

I’m feeling stuck. I want to make changes in my life but I can’t seem to do so. What can I do?

One of the cardinal rules of the Law of Attraction is to focus on what you want and not on what you don’t want. This feeling of being stuck often will persist if you continue to focus on what you don’t have in your life while having a desire to have something else. If you really want to make changes begin to imagine what your life would be like when you are truly happy and content. Hold on to that feeling and begin to imagine some of the things you would be doing from that place of bliss and harmony. Write those things down and begin to schedule them into your weekly routine.

Often the feeling of being stuck comes from our mind and we try to think of ways to get unstuck. Stuckness is a feeling and the best way to change that feeling is to replace it with a better feeling. Find things that make you happy and begin to do them often. As you do so you will notice that the feeling of being stuck dissipates.

To move forward in life we do need courage, but when you muster that courage you will find the results well worth it. If you have always done what you have always done you will get what you always got. Do something different in your life and you won’t feel stuck. Pick a few things to change that are not too big so you begin to feel more comfortable with making changes in your life. For example, take just one class in something that interests you before enrolling in a full degree program.

I know it’s important to get in touch with my emotions but I can’t seem to do so. How do you get in touch with your emotions?

We all have emotions whether we know it or not. What I have found is that due to some emotional pain at sometime in life, people often close off that part of themselves to protect against further pain. What often happens is that we give over the running of the ship, so to speak to our minds. Although we always are feeling we don’t do so with much intensity or awareness as our mind tends to be more in control always protecting us from the pain some emotions may bring our way.

So in order to get more in touch with your emotions it becomes paramount to quiet the mind with techniques like meditation or journaling. We all have emotions but often we have shut down our ability to truly feel. The thinking mind and the feeling heart are different consciousnesses. If you want more feeling in your life then allowing your heart and mind to be more in balance is necessary. What I have found working with people is that the more they try to feel the less they do so because the trying is coming from their mind.

Pay attention to times when your mind is more quiet and become aware of the feelings that come up within you. Allow feelings to come up without censoring them or judging them. It does take practice to get more in touch with your emotions but in my case I have found it very worthwhile.

My son is doing poorly in school and although I really love him I am very concerned about his results and the fact that he does not seem to be doing the work in order to get passing grades. What can I do?

It’s very challenging for children that don’t do well academically in our society. There is so much emphasis on being smart in order to get ahead that those who don’t have the academic ability are soon left behind. I know from personal experience that the feeling of inadequacy some children feel can leave a permanent scare on them. Lack of self worth in my opinion is one the biggest problems we face in our society today. The challenge is to assist your child to get the best education possible while allowing their self esteem to stay as high as possible. I know most parents want the best for their children, but sometimes that requires letting go of some of the conditioned beliefs about education and learning.

In my opinion ensuring that your child’s self worth stays high is more paramount than passing grades. With high self esteem your child will always find something in life that they are good at and that they can earn money doing. Helping your child understand his or her strengths and weaknesses and feeling good about both is very important. Helping them find their passion, their courage and their determination will allow your child to succeed in life.

How do I find my purpose in life?

I believe your purpose in life exists in doing the things that make you the most happy and fulfilled. It’s really that simple; find the activities in your life that make you truly happy and content and you will be very close to your purpose.

We often try to make finding our purpose a very complicated process. I believe we are supposed to find happiness, contentment and fulfillment in life. In order to do so we must allow ourselves to try lots of things always being aware of how they make us feel. The things in life that make you feel the best will lead you to your inner purpose.
